Building Sustainable Communities: A Municipal Leadership Conversation

Opening Address
What does building for sustainability look like across the Bow Valley? The Mayors of Canmore and Banff and the Reeve of the MD of Bighorn will open the Symposium by sharing recent progress, priorities, and lessons from their communities. Guided by questions submitted by local industry and organizations, this plenary will explore the opportunities and challenges municipal leaders face as they respond to growth, changing community needs, and long-term sustainability goals. Moderated by Gareth Thomson, the conversation will highlight both the distinct approaches of each municipality and the shared issues that call for regional leadership and collaboration.
Corrie DiManno
Mayor of Banff
Corrie’s roots in Banff run deep. Her grandparents immigrated from Italy in the late 1950s, and their decision to build a life in the mountains created her lifelong connection to this special place.
After earning a journalism degree and reporting for the local newspaper, Corrie’s passion for community storytelling led her into public service. First elected to Banff Town Council in 2013, she became mayor in 2021 and was acclaimed for a second term in 2025. As mayor, she’s focused on building a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable future for Banff.
Beyond municipal leadership, she’s worked in communications for organizations including the Banff Canmore Community Foundation, Roam Public Transit, and Banff Pride. Through it all, her favourite way to enjoy Banff is by running, hiking, and biking with friends in the mountains she calls home.
Sean Krausert
Mayor of Canmore
Mayor Sean Krausert has resided in Canmore for over 30 years and has raised his family here. Having been twice elected to Council previously, Sean was elected as Mayor in 2021 and again in 2025. Sean brings to Council a breadth and depth of professional experience as a lawyer, overseas relief and development manager, real estate development executive, entrepreneur, and social justice advocate. Sean holds degrees in political science and law.
Lisa Rosvold
Reeve of the MD of Bighorn
I was born and raised in Bradford Ontario. Outside of school I spent the majority of my childhood in girl guides, downhill ski racing and babysitting. I graduated in 2005 with an Honours Earth Sciences Degree, and an emphasis in Polar Regions from Trent University, in Peterborough Ontario. I came out West in 2005 for the ski season and have called the Bow Valley home since. I am married to a successful local business owner, have two young children in elementary school, and the cutest golden-doodle around.
I moved to Dead Man's Flats in 2017, and love our little community. It is my privilege to serve the people of the MD of Bighorn.
Part of my municipal contribution includes; Bow Valley Regional Housing Commission, WildSmart, Municipal Excellence Committee, Subdivision and Development Appeal Board.
